FOUNDATIONS FOR FAMILY STUDIES

Family and marriage are the foundations on which society is built. Strong marriages create healthy families: healthy families form healthy individuals, and healthy individuals contribute to building a strong and stable society. The FFS aims to equip families and married couples to live their lives as intended for them, giving them the tools and knowledge they need to invest in other families and couples.

BECOMING EQUIPPED TOGETHER

FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Your family is welcome at the FFS! Children aged 6 and up (of school age) will join the Foundation Program. The Foundation Program is a DTS for children, where they are taught topics such as the Father-heart of God, prayer, Jesus, and evangelism. There will also be time for prayer, praise and games. The Foundation Program is conducted in English.

Parents are responsible for following up the curriculum from their children’s school at home. Time will be set aside during the week for parents and children to have home schooling.

Children 3-5 years old will have their own kindergarten program, conducted by staff from the FFS, at the premises of Grimerud Kindergarten.

Children 0-2 years old can join their parents in the lessons. A play area will be offered adjacent to the classroom. As long as there is room at Grimerud, it may also be possible to bring a "nanny" to help with the very youngest children, or to accompany children to kindergarten who do not speak either Norwegian or English.

There will also be various weekly gatherings where the entire family can participate.

After completing the lecture phase, there follows a practical part of at least 8 weeks. This can be completed directly after the lecture phase or at another time but must be completed within two years. Some of the outreach must take place abroad and in teams of two or more families (at least 3-4 adults). Outreach is not organized by the school management. The students are responsible for planning and carrying out the trip. The school management will help in finding contacts and destinations and provide necessary information. Expenses for outreach are in addition to what is paid for the lecture phase at Grimerud.

On outreach, you will get a taste of being on a mission as a family and putting theory into practice. Outreach also provides an opportunity for personal growth in your own life.

WHAT IS THE U OF N FOUNDATIONS FOR FAMILY STUDIES?

Foundations for Family Studies is a school for families, couples, and singles who have completed a Discipleship Training School (DTS) and who have a desire and a dream to bring God's purpose and vision for the family back to society.

FFS is part of the University of the Nations (U of N) and belongs to the College of Family Studies. The lecture phase of the school is accredited with 12 points at the U of N. If you want to build toward a bachelor's degree, you must also complete an approved outreach (which gives an additional 12 points at the U of N).

During the 12-week lecture phase, topics will be taught that include marriage, the role of parents, interaction within the family, missions, and the family in service. Various tools will be given that can be used in couple seminars and in conversing with and counseling couples.

During the program, students are required to do weekly written assignments, book reports, personal studies, a written thesis with an oral presentation, and an exam.
